Opening songs
On the way to Versailles last weekend, my friends and I discussed on old blog entry I had written awhile back which listed the top opening songs in my collection. At the time, we were listening to Massive Attack, the original band which sparked this concept because “Angel” on Mezzanine is one of the best opening tracks I have ever heard, and began to throw out other tracks. I decided my list, although not extensive, remained viable and needed a re-publish.
These are my top opening tracks, in no particular order, which do exactly what an opening track should do: be definitive of the direction of the album and encapsulate its energy. I have added two to the original list.
1.Massive Attack – “Angel” – Mezzanine
2. Garbage – “Temptation Waits” – Version 2.0
3. Pixies – “Debaser” – Doolittle
4. REM – “Drive” – Automatic for the People
5. Gomez – “Get Miles” – Bring It On
6. Radiohead – “Pakt Like Sardines in a Crushd Tin Box” – Amnesiac
7. Air – “La Femme D’Argent” – Moon Safari
8. James – “Out To Get You” – Laid
9. PJ Harvey – “To Bring You My Love” – To Bring You My Love
10. Cure – “Plainsong” – Disintegration
11. Wolf Parade – “You Are a Runner and I Am My Father’s Son” - Apologies to the Queen Mary
12. The Shins - ”Sleeping Lessons” – Wincing the Night Away
I suggest pink floyd – wish you were here
Eion,
Agreed. A great one…
