Mixtape: volume III

The success (meaning: a few of my friends downloaded it and liked the results) of the nostalgic mix a.fluid.affect: volume II – revisit has prompted a quick follow-up: a.fluid.affect: volume III – revisiter. Many of the songs on this album continue to bring back that lovin’ feeling described in the post below but do so in a different vein: a little more punk, a little more funk, and a little more smooth drivin’ junk.

In many ways, these selections are the gems of either over-played or underrated artists. While everyone was focused on Loser by Beck, Beercan has remained my top song on Mellow Gold. Urge Overkill’s Sister Havana fell into heavy rotation on 120 minutes, but the misfit on the album, Dropout, holds my attention. Fugazi and 7 Year Bitch never truly rode the 90’s wave of Alternative, but anyone who was fortunate enough to see either band live knows why they retain a place in my collection and this album (in 1995, at 19, I sat and conversed with Selene Vigil of 7 Year Bitch for the entirety of Alice Donut’s set, which the band had just opened for at La Luna in Portland, Oregon. I was mesmerized by her and wish, to this day, I had the audacity to ask her on a date). I’ve Been Tired is one of the Pixies‘ best. Rearviewmirror is one the Pearl Jam’s. And Grey Cell Green by Ned’s Atomic Dustbin kicks ass (while reminding me of my first girlfriend). As for the rest, well, all have been purposely placed on this album for better or for worse. If curious as to why, you can always ask. Enjoy.
