Drinking at its finest…
After a 9+ hour bout with hops, malt and barley, one would think that another drink to be beyond the realm of reason. And although I never went overboard last night and escaped a hangover Sunday (nice!), I still question why I am sitting here with a glass of wine in hand. A few possibilities exist:
- I am not rational.
- I am an alcoholic.
- I am neither of these and, at least in drinking terms, normal. I merely enjoy alcoholic beverages, a lot.
#1 is not only probable but extremely likely. I have a slight disdain for rational thought. Bacchus and Pan are true gods and until science proves the how and why of pleasure, I will stay with them. Unfortunately, these beliefs lead me to wonder about #2. If I take a test online, each tells me to seek help, but I just laugh and go mix another martini since this penchant for drink does not seem to erode that which I cherish. The most attractive possibility is, of course, #3. However, I have no idea how to test this situation. Statistics don’t help because they each seem too bent on curbing drinking, not reporting facts. Observation seems to tell me that most people drink as much as I do or more (at least here in Europe). So, what to do? A poll of course…here it is:
